FLASHPOINT LABS / PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS / Nov 2016
Flashpoint Labs (FPL) is a professional photography organisation based in Sydney, that provides paid apprenticeships for Indigenous young people in the fields of photography and videography. After FPL was awarded a Westpac Community Grant in 2016, I produced a series of workshops aimed at introducing Indigenous youth to our programs and the industry.
Throughout the four weeks, the participants learnt how to use digital cameras, work to corporate briefs, location photography, studio lighting and edit images through a series of practical activities. The workshops encouraged photography as a powerful story telling tool and a means of connection to culture and community.
FPL empowers and supports young people to learn new skills and gain confidence in themselves and their abilities to seek paid employment in any chosen field. As a result of the workshops, we had four new apprentices come on board who have gained paid work experience on jobs with clients such as Ikea, Westpac and City2Surf.
