HOUSE OF WELCOME / LADIES' GROUPS / 2015 - 2016

House of Welcome (HoW) is a not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney that provides support services for refugees and asylum seekers. In 2015 to 2016 I was asked to produce and facilitate their new women's program in Auburn, NSW.

The Ladies' Group ran one day a week at the Auburn Community Centre with the aim to reduce social isolation amongst refugee and asylum seeker women. The groups consisted of a cooking and beading class that encouraged and empowered the women to create new friendships and share and learn new skills.

Each week, we discussed different cultures and shared stories over the food we cooked together and as a result of the programs success, The Ladies' Group later developed into The Women's Creative Hub. The hub is a larger initiative promoting social connection and opportunities to earn income and gain employment experience through the creation and selling of their wares at local markets.
